Surgery, no insurance….?

Tuesday, July 27, 2010

I am having back surgery next week and may be out of work for 8 weeks. Worker’s Comp has not approved the claim yet and the surgery cannot wait and I have no health insurance. If they deny the claim are there any programs to help with the lost income and medical expenses? The medical expenses would be bad enough but the lost income for 2 months could be crippling. I live in Wisconsin, by the way.

  2. You can easily check your minimal health care rates in internet, for example here – healthquotes.awardspace.info

  3. ”What Happens If My Claim is Denied? If your claim is denied,
either in part or in full, and you believe that you should receive
further benefits, your dispute may be handled through a formal
hearing or through an informal alternative dispute resolution
process.” Additional FAQ’s are here I’m not seeing info on State
Disability Ins for WI… check with the UI office. You may be
eligible for SSA/SSI benefits… take takes some time however.
Unfortunately there are no provisions outside of “welfare” that
would help with the wage loss, or medical care you may require. You
really need to discuss your options with a attorney. If you require
immediate assistance, you can contact the WC commission
    ombudsman…www.dwd.state.wi.us/mail/asp/mailto_gen.asp?WhoTo=WCAdmin
Regardless of what other benefits you may be eligible for, your
employer/carrier are liable for medical care to your injury until a
judge rules otherwise, even though the claim has not been formally
accepted. You need to litigate this issue in WC court. If the
surgery is something that ”can’t wait”, it would have been
provided by now on an emergency basis. Apparently the operation is
not a dire as you may have been led to believe.
