Is there any kind of compensation for a maternity leave in New York
State?
I have been with my current employer for 3 months and will be going on maternity leave soon. I was just wondering if there is any kind of workers comp or disability I can collect?

As far as I know, nobody pays you during maternity leave here in the US. You might have PTO (paid time off) hours that you can use, you will have to check with your employer. Motherhood does not qualify as disability or worker’s comp. That is why we need to move to Europe! They pay you for maternity leave there, I think that is awesome….
It depends on your employer. If you have insurance through them and have selected short term disability, then yes. Otherwise, probably not.
I highly doubt it, especially since you’ve only worked there for 3 months. Sometimes when you’ve been at your job for a while they offer you paid time off, but no disability. Maternity leave isn’t a disability. You “chose” to have a baby. You’ll have to check with your employer, but likely, no.
Yes. There are six states in the United States that consider pregnancy a short term disability and New York is one of them. New York will give you a little less than half of what you make a month once a week for six weeks but you actually only get five weeks of pay but the first week is tax deductable. The only downside is New York will not pay you until you are 38 weeks along. Do a google search for something like “New York State short term disability for pregnancy” and a link for New Yorks workers comp. board website should come up and just search and play with the website until you find what you’re looking for. There are two forms that you have to choose from one if you’ve been out of work for over 4 weeks and one if you’ve been working and then once you choose the one that applies to you, you print it out and fil out a portion of it and have your doctor fill out the rest. But like i said you cannot submit it until you are 38 weeks along.
