Federal cash is now the No. 1 revenue source for state and local governments, surpassing sales and property taxes, the government data show.
State and local governments are adding new workers andraising pay:
•Employment. State and local governments added 12,000 workers, a 0.1% increase, in the quarter, reports the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The private sector cut 1.3 million jobs, a 1.2% reduction, during this time. Federal employment was flat.
•Compensation. Pay and benefits rose at a 4% annual rate in the second quarter for state and local workers, BLS reports.
For private workers, compensation was up at a 0.8% annual rate, the lowest since the government started keeping track in 1980.
So while private sectors are losing jobs and getting minimal if any increase. Government workers are getting a 4% increase??
And where are states going to get the money to pay for these increase once the stimulus money runs out??
All jobs ‘saved’ or being created are short term government jobs, because once the stimulus package runs out, so do the jobs because states don’t have the money and won’t have the money.
Obama is wasting money and more money, now signs a GI bill that pays for any enlisted since 9/11 and serves 6 months??? 6 months gets you through what ?? basic training??
I will be shocked if the country isn’t in a complete mess by January 2010 if it isn’t already.

I remember predicting some of them myself, such as smaller federal tax revenues in a recession.
Actually the goodnews is that this country will self-correct in spite of Obama.

Obama was the most qualified candidate, because he understood the issues better than any of the other candidates.
He was ready. No one else was.
Surprise…the country was in a complete mess when Obama took over. He has done nothing except try to crawl out of the hole Republicans put us in.
You Neocons have no confidence in your own leaders. That’s why I think you need to stay in your own countries and leave the US alone.
So your proof that Obama is not ready to be President is that
1. The CBO ignores the supply side impact of better healthcare
2. The Bush administration left Obama with the largest recession in a generation
3. State governments are overpaying thier employees.
That is really the best you can do? Heck – I support him and yet can still come up with valid criticism.
Yes, yes he does on a daily basis. Sometimes more frequently.
The first time he said he inherited all the problems he showed he was not ready. He ran for the job was in the senate and opposed reigning in Fanny and Freddy which was a major component to the economic problems he is facing. He took the job if he he did not want the responsibility he should not have ran.
It’s the land of entitlements. Get yours while you can! Obama will be known as the great enabler.
