ok, so my friends mom wanted to know is it possible to find out if someone received there settlement money. She said her ex husband owes her tons of child support and he was supposed to be settling his Workers Compensation case. which he is supposed to give her money from. He told her he is supposed to be receiving $150,000.00. then he tells her he just settled but that he did not receive that much, he claims he received $15,000.00 and he went shopping and bought a brand new car. Now she wants to know if theres a way to find out whether or not he did settle and for how much. if anyone can help that would be great.

  1. Not unless she files for a modification of child support where those records become public. Otherwise, that’s none of her business.

The money is long gone even if he still has it, it’s not going to be in a bank account when he knows his ex is trolling around looking for the money.

If he still does have money, rest assured it’s probably buried or in a place where no one could prove he still has it. As far as proving how it was spent if that comes to question, he could have a gambling problem.

You can only file for modification once every 3 years.

What this all boils down to, she can kiss getting a piece of that money goodbye if they didn’t garnish it when it was paid out.

  2. She needs to go to court for enforcement of the support order. The court will determine if he received any money and how much if any can be attached.

  3. In a WC claim, the WC court generally notifies the county/state of
the claim… back due child support is one if not the only non
medical lien acceptable in a comp claim. The county will grab those
monies before he ever sees a check. And, depending on the state,
his weekly benefits may be reduced, leaving him with but 25% of the
weekly benefit to “live on”… just because he said he received a
cash settlement does not make it fact. There would be virtually no
way a settlement of 150K would be reduced to 15K…the man was a
liar, and she apparently knew that when she divorced him. Go to the
county/state, or the WC court web site for info on the status of
his claim. If she has enough info handy.
