In Alabama, once the first report of injury has been filed with the workmen comp carrier (ins.co.) by the employer, it takes 3 to 4 weeks to get the first check. After that, weekly till you’re back on the job. Also you’re not paid for the first 3 days you’re off until you’ve been off 3 weeks, then they will go back and pay you for the 3 days.
Well I have been waiting since 2005. Even with an attorney.
Good luck!
Which state are you in, and how many days work did you miss?? Most states have a waiting period, anywhere from 5 to 15 days that you have to miss work, before the lost wages part kicks in.
You might not be eligible for lost wages. Medical payments – well, unless the claim is being contested, the provider will likely be paid directly.
Work Comp checks typically depend on every state. Some states are 5 days and some take a long time until the adjuster makes a compensible decision on it, such as Hawaii. Until a decision is made in Hawaii you don’t get a dime. However not all states are like that, in Oregon the adjuster has 14 days to make a payment.
Remember your check will be much different from what your getting. Some states like Oregon and Hawaii are based on a .6667% of your average weekly wage while some states like Alaska is based on if your married and have any dependents.
One of the main questions is, do you qualify for lost wages because of your injury at work? Have you missed more than the state period? Example is in Oregon there’s a waiting period, it’s 3 days for Oregon and some other states very.
I suggest that you contact your adjuster regarding your check and ask them when you will be expecting your first check. This way you might be able to get an idea of what you’ll get and when you’ll get it, especally with the holiday season here.
usually six to nine weeks unless it’s held up because they are trying to deny your claim on some kind of technicality
