All I recieved last year was workers comp checks and a settlement for 8 thousand dollars, do i file taxes?

I didnt know if some1 should claim me as a dependent since i didnt actually work or if i would be able to file me own? anybody know what i am suppose to do?

  1. You need to file. If you have any money come in, you need to pay taxes on it.

  3. if your workers compensation payments are being paid under a workers’ compensation act or a statute in the nature of a workers’ compensation act, then these payments are non-taxable even if it’s $8000. You are not required to file.

    Now, for someone to claim you, you must meet certain other requirements as their qualifying child or qualifying relative. But your workers comp checks won’t count as gross income under Section 104(a)(1).
