What are our options in ref to injured on the job?

My boyfriend was injured on the job on Tuesday. His boss (the sub-contractor) doesn’t have workers compensation and isn’t licensed by the state of Florida to do the type of work they do (construction such as Drywall, Finish and etc.) My boyfriend injured himself from falling off some stilts and ended up fracturing his left wrist and right elbow. He tripped on some gardening tools that belong to the homeowners. The subcontractor that my bf is working for is undocumented as well as my bf. What are my boyfriend’s rights?
He has to see an orthopedic, but can’t afford it. He will need a cast on both arms and won’t be able to work for at least a month. What can we do legally?

  1. I would go after the home owner, his insurance would more than likely settle out of court. Working under the table is foolish, especially for an unlicensed employer. Unfortunately the damage is done, get an attorney asap!

  2. Undocumented…what can you do legally? Not much that I can think of but you may want to check with a local attorney. Something tells me though that your boyfriend is screwed and going to be in pain for quite some time.
