Should President Obama demand that Al Franken quit?
President Obama has said many times that he wants to restore integrity to politics. I believe him.
So…should he talk to Al Franken and demand that he give up his bid to be U.S. Senator?
Here’s a list of Franken’s legal and ethical problems.
-Last April, the California Tax Franchise Board revealed that Franken owed the state $5,800 in taxes, fines, and penalties because he did not file returns in 2003 through 2007. Franken then admitted that he owed more than $50,000 in back taxes to 17 states. Franken blames the whole thing on his accountant, Allen Chanziz…and demanded that he answer any question with a “No comment.”
-New York State Workers’ Compensation Board hit Franken’s corporation with a $25,000 penalty for failing to carry worker’s compensation insurance for his employees in New York. Yet Franken ran as an advocate of middle-class voters. Once again, he blamed his accountant. But his accountant claims that Franken specifically told him not to pay his worker’s comp fees.
-After a recount, Franken came out 225 votes ahead of Republican Norm Coleman in the Minnesota U.S senate race. But there have been so many questions about voter fraud and ballot tampering that the issue is being litigated. Franken lately has demanded that a high court certify him.
President Barack Obama said, “Ultimately it’s important for this administration to send a message that there aren’t two sets of rules. You know, one for prominent people and one for ordinary folks who have to pay their taxes.”
So…should Obama demand that Franken forget about the senate?
In the words of Al Franken: Mistakes are a part of being human. Appreciate your mistakes for what they are: precious life lessons that can only be learned the hard way. Unless it’s a fatal mistake, which, at least, others can learn from.
Yes, Obama should take the high road.
no way — he has no right and should not attempt to mingle in state politics!!!
