How do I go about taking a stress leave?
I saw others asking questions about stress leave. I am in the same situation. I have been at my job for 3 1/2 years and these past 6 weeks it’s been very difficult. I also work in a hostile work environment with a Supervisor that doesn’t have her staff’s back due to her being the biggest a** kisser ever and is so scared of getting in trouble with the Project Director that she (even if it’s her fault and or mistake) she will blame her staff and lie about her staff even though it’s her, and lately she’s been picking on me I seem to be her target since I was recently transferred to her unit 6 weeks ago. Before this I was under a different Supervisor and I did not have these problems. Of course there was stress but nowhere near what I’m going through at this time. In the 2 years I have been a social worker I have not undergone this depth of stress or frustration. I’ve gone into a serious depression, anxiety, all I want to do is sleep (which I know is related to depression) my marriage is falling apart, my kids are being affected by this. On top of all this I have some serious medical problems that I need to take care of, and the company in which I work for does not want to give me the time off (they say I need to make appointments for after work…Dr offices usually close at 5:00pm like my office does or on the weekends which also I do not have that availability). Anyways, yeah we could all say find another job but I just so happen to work for a California Program that helps people find jobs, and I’m very well aware of what is and isn’t out there. I’ve sent my resume out with no luck as well. Anyways, I’ve never worked for such a horrible, hostile, fraudulent, corrupt, speak with your Supervisor and Site Manager who claim that they will address and help with any issues or concerns an employee may have and make every effort to fix it which they don’t! Therefore I have the same questions as many others and that is how do I go about going on a temporary stress leave? I want to work, I have a family to support, my husband is also laid off and so me having a job is very important (and I am blessed to have a job). I need to get my mental and physical condition stable. Does anybody have any idea how to go about a stress leave? Do I need to speak with Management first? If so, I have emailed and spoke with them about my frustrations with the promise of the Management taking action however the action has not taken place. If anybody has any advice I would greatly appreciate it. I apologize for the long message. I guess I had a lot to get off my chest. Thank you for any advice or guidance that anybody could give me. Also, does anybody know if I would still be eligible for my health insurance that I pay for through work? When you take a stress leave is there any temporary financial compensation and what is it? Thank you.

There is no such thing as ‘stress leave’. If you feel depressed, or
suffering stress to the extent there is time loss from your job,
you have to get a Dr to make the connection of your stress to the
time loss. File a claim for stress/psych with your employer. File a
first report of injury, form DWC PR-1, the employer has the right
and responsibility to direct you to the MPN/Medical Provider
Network to seek treatment. You must select a PTP/Primary Treating
Physician in the MPN. Be fore warned however, your ENTIRE life will
become an open book. Everything since birth will be discussed
including your sex life with/without your husband. Even to the
point of asking “do you enjoy having sex with animals”?”. When you
say “no”, the next question is “so you do have sex with animals,
but don’t enjoy it?”. Possibly this is causing your ‘stress’. Psych
claims can be won, but at great additional ‘stress’ to the injured
party. Consult with an attorney handling primarily workers
compensation claims.
