Where can my brother in law purchase Work Comp insurance for his painting business?

My brother in law has a painting business and he is being required to purchase Workers Compensation for his workers. Does anyone know some good places that sell this kind of policy in the Chicagoland area? Any and all resources will be greatly appreciated!

  1. Contact his insurance agent that sold him liability insurance etc.

  2. Have him start with the agent who handles his car insurance or homeowners’/renters’ insurance….

  3. He can get information from the State, or he can call various insurance companies….personally I’d call AFLAC, they have great accident policies that cover an employee On and Off the job, as well as disability and workmans comp. coverage, and are affordable.

  4. The same agent that sells his liability coverage should be able to sell him Workers Comp.

It’s kinda hard for contractors to get workers comp on a “stand alone” basis – it’s not a very profitable line for agents to sell, so they’ll want to write the rest of his business.

But any agent CAN do it, if they want to.
