What role has America played in the illegal immigration problem? Given our complicity, what is the solution?
Evidence of our complicity: pourous border control; ineffective legal worker verification; widespread use of illegal aliens in agriculture, hospitality, construction trades and many more industries; uninforced laws designed to penalize businesses for hiring illegal aliens; historical codification of undocumented worker compensation (i.e. 1933 Minimum Wage law excluded migrant former workers from minimum wage requirements).
There’s almost no long term solution, but I don’t know why amnesty is out of the question, Reagan did it when he was president and it brought millions of tax dollars in from people who used to be illegal immigrants working under the table… I think you make this deal, if you’ve been here working for more than five years, than you can get a green card, on the condition that you MUST begin paying taxes.

If Congress were to pass a law that said, quite simply, that the CEO of any business that was caught employing ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS went to jail for a year – NO EXCEPTIONS – then within a month there would be ten million (more or less) people lined up at the Mexican border trying to get out of the United States And Back To Whatever Country They Came From.
The US unemployment rate would drop close to zero, and wages would begin to rise. The American middle class would begin to return to viability, as would the union movement in this nation.

i have been going off about this problem for years and it has grown in to the ugly scene we see today and even if you make them legal this problem will still be here. you cant just take the brunt of a whole nation and expect no ramification’s you cant expect no economic or social ramification’s. to say otherwise would be idiotic !WHO will pay for these millions of illegals on welfare when there are NO REAL DECENT JOBS left for anyone here to support a family? If the Mexicans kill off the current working class, then WHO will support THEM? Let’s not forget the auto parts plant moved from Detroit to Mexico just a few years ago, that was then moved back to Detroit about a year later. Why? Because after 12 noon they did almost no work. Several auto production lines were in danger of shutdown because sub-assembly parts were late. Is this the future of America?
Currently, millions illegal aliens commandeer jobs away from American citizens. If they don’t steal those jobs, they depress the wages to the point of legalized slavery. We have an estimated one million illegal alien Chinese in this country (Source: March 2005 Forbes Magazine). At the same time, we outsource jobs to China where a billion people can’t wait to make 50 cents an hour. Human smugglers bringing illegals into America make $7 billion annually according to the report.
Do they work the jobs Americans won’t do? False! If American doctors were paid $5.00 an hour they wouldn’t be working those hospital jobs either.
You have to ask yourself if you want illegal immigrant doctors working at minimum wage to perform a by-pass heart surgery on you? Would you like an illegal immigrant lawyer defending you in court for $5.00 an hour? How about a $5.00 an hour illegal immigrant college professor teaching your kids calculus? How about an illegal alien truck driver driving down the road at 70 MPH with 80,000 pounds of steel, no ability to read English and a fifth grade education-from Mexico’s educational system?
Meanwhile, profits soar for corporations while the middle class of America plummets into worsening unemployment. Will America drop into Third World conditions as economist Paul Roberts predicts? At the current rate of 4.1 million legal and illegal newcomers imported into the United States annually, it’s only a matter of time before, we too, manifest conditions of the Third World. You can’t drown the labor market with millions of people and expect to keep your wages high when immigrants will undercut you.
That’s why the pay in China or India is less than $10.00 per day. They have 2.4 billion people in those two countries. That’s why they live subsistence lives. In time, that reality will manifest itself in America as the middle class vanishes. It’s already happening. You need look no further than California as an example of the first Third World State of America.

Legal vs Illegal…penalized or not. What it all comes down to. The good ole boys have moved there factories to Mexico. Its the cost of doing business. We have seen it time and time again. We can have a thousand laws on the books but they will never enforced. Why because its the cost of doing business. We could give things away medical,dental,food stamps, ect…The cost of doing business. Look at the profits of Campbell Soup, Pampers, Hughie’s, Proctor and Gamble check the stock market. All the cost of doing business…We have all played a roll. We buy and support these companies….LOL
