How much can I make from an injury law suit?
Recently I was hit by a car. My leg and arm were broken and I had to get 22 stitches. I have hired an injury lawyer and have a witness who is speaking on my behalf. It is the fault of the driver that I was hit. How much, on average, would I earn if things worked in my favor? Would I recieve coverage for my medical bills and wages I have lost from not working?
You should get medical bills and possibly lost wages if the person that hit you had insurance. If not,you will have to sue them personally and will be lucky to get anything.
My best friend was hit by a car several years ago,the guy took off because he had no insurance, but he was turned in a few days later by one of his friends. She got nothing. She is now permanently disabled. Don’t count on anything. Your lawyer will also take a huge chunk out of anything you do get.
The laws have changed so much since my car accident in the 1990′s but I’d assume that they’d have to pay your medical, and your lawyer will get a 1/3 of the total amount of your settlement.. Don’t think that boom all of a sudden they will pay you off and you’ll go on ur marry way cause it takes years alot of times.. and in the beginning your having to deal with the insurance company and it will also depend on rather they had full coverage insurance and stuff..
And its not like its something that your just gonna go to court and sue someone.. your lawyer will try and get the medical part for you from the other car insurance, its not like oh yeah lets take em to court cause baiscally your not suing the other driver to start with, your sueing his insurance and if it comes down to it and your lawyer if he don’t like the amount if any benifit is awarded to you, if he says thats not enuff with you, then thats when you go to court, but knowing that could happen, they will have all your doctors there to testify and all that type of thing and if you say Lost in Court youd not only be stuck with paying the loss time for the doctors per doctors but you’d also have to pay the court cost and the other insurance company…
GOOD LUCK the laws are so screwy.. when I had my accident it wasn’t my fault but i had “No Fault insurance” they don’t have that anymore though..
I forgot to mention ask your lawyer if you can get money to and from your doctors appintment? I don’t know if they still do that or not cant hurt to ask though..
There is no ‘average’ or ‘normal’ settlement in a MVA/personal
injury case. Your attorney would be the best source of information
on this. However… if the MVA is also a workers compensation
claim… you would be paid indemnity based on residual
impairment/disability due to the injuries. That’s about it. Your
empolyer/carrier would be entitled to reimbursement of any
monies/benefits they paid from any recovery you may see in a
settlement.
