What could this knee injury be? and how do I stop the feeling of pain and instability?
Question by : What could this knee injury be? and how do I stop the feeling of pain and instability?
Hi,
Could you please answer this question as I do not know what to do about my knee that I hurt over a year ago now. So as I said over a year ago I fell off of a six foot skate ramp and landed on my left knee on the corner of a very pointy metal clamp on my scooter. Initially I could not move my knee or weight bear but forced myself to get up and hobble home using my scooter as a crutch. Within 5 minuits of the injury my knee was swollen to at least double its usual size, the swelling was mainly around the kneecap and a little down the inside of the knee. Ever since then I have had nothing but trouble and allot of pain from my knee. I never went to see a doctor until about 8 months ago despite the amount of pain I was in. My GP referred me for x-rays and physical therapy, the x-rays sowed nothing and I never got a letter through from the physio. 6 moths later I was at a fair and on a Gravity Wheel ride I tried to fight the gravity and my knee just completely gave way crunching as it went. After that I went in to see another doctor who referred me to physical therapy and left it at that. I have a physio appointment for Christmas Eve but don’t know if I can wait the pain is worse than it ever was now, because as I’m sure you know in the UK we have had some very severe snow and ice. In the snow I fell over twisting and landing hard on my knee hard at the same time. I was is agony but luckily I fell right by the fire station ans was with my little sister who went and got some firemen to help me one of who was a Fire and Rescue Ambulance Co-Responder. The Firemen really wanted to call for an ambulance as I could not move my knee and was in so much pain, they did not call for an ambulance as it would have taken around 2 hours for one to reach me in the snow and as I was on the floor in the snow the risk of hypothermia was very high. Now the pain is worse than it ever has been and is worsening by the day, the pain is all located down the inside of my left knee. The pain is always worse if I walk around quite a bit or do some physical activity and then rest the pain increases so I have stopped all sport for now. I also have this very unstable feeling when I put weight onto my tiptoes as if my knee is going to give way again. And OTC pain meds do not seem to help much at all. Would a doctor prescribe pain med of some sort to a 13 year old girl? What could this injury be? and Should I see a doctor again before my physio appointment or just wait it out? and What should I do to reduce pain and the feeling of instability?
I am a 13 year old girl with no allergies.
Thank You

I believe you should go see your GP again, if you are still in pain and your knee has been weakened by these series of injuries.I would recommend in the mean time that you wear a supportive bandage, and perhaps use Arnica a holistic remedy made from herbs. It is drug free and used to reduced swelling and help with bruising.I have used this on many occasions myself and has helped me significantly with
ankle injuries/weakening. I believe that you may have a torn ligiment, these are sometimes hard to spot on x-rays because they can be minute.Hope you are able to resolve these problems sooner rather than later.
