Question by : I was fired from my job today?
I was fired from my job today, as a casual mail handler through USPS. I had started my job last Wednesday.

My left arm has been hurting the last two days. I might have strained or pulled a muscle in my left arm. I told my supervisor about it today, and I told him that I might not be able to use a specific machine for more than 5 hours, because of the pain in my left arm. He said “okay”.

Later, he called me to his office. He told me, that, the company has a zero tolerance policy, when it comes to reporting accidents/injuries late, and that he was going to have to “let me go” (fire me).

I told him, that, I was unaware about the “zero tolerance policy”, and if he could possibly just give me a “warning” this time, rather than firing me from the job. I was a hard worker, and I always did the tasks that I was asked to do.

He responded to me: “I know you do everything that you are asked to do, but, we have a zero tolerance policy. I am sorry, but, I am going to have to let you go”.
I just don’t understand why he couldn’t have given me a “warning” or something like that………

It’s not like I had STOLEN anything.

There is really nothing that you can do, every employee signs a paper saying that you got a booklet of company rules. Its your job to read it front to back. This is why its important to read what you sign and to read everything you are given from your employer. Sorry

  1. I’m sorry you lost your job, but what is your question?

If you’re wondering if you were wrongfully terminated, you weren’t. It’s harsh, but employers have a vested interest in making certain employees report on the job injuries immediately.

  2. Sounds to me like you were angling for a workers’ comp freebie after barely working for a week. That’s likely the real reason they let you go. Can’t blame ‘em.
